Belgian Successes at Printencup Aachen

Final between Matthias Laske and Steven Steeno (Leuven). In the background, Hasselt Gammonators Luc Palmans and Walter Meuwis, struggling in the consolation.

Among the 20 participants at the Printencup Aachen (Saturday, Augsut 18, 2012), the closest backgammon tournament abroad, no less than 7 were Belgian. And they achieved a fine result too, Steven Steeno reaching the final of the main and Luc Palmans winning the final of the consolation. Tournament winner was Matthias Laske (report).

The tournament format was main (9-pointers) and progressive consolation (5-pointers). Although no clocks were used, except for the final, the timing went fine. Parallel to the tournament, a KO 1-point tournament was being held, for some extra checker play action.

In case you wonder what the word Printen refers too: these are excellent, cinnamon-flavored cookies, a local specialty, on which the participants were treated. Many thanks to Aachen’s Ralf Woelk for the excellent organisation!
