  • Save the Union-Sandeman, venue of the Backgammon Club Ghent

    The K.A. Union-Sandeman vzw, a thriving bridge, billiards, and backgammon club, is being evicted from its premises by the city of Ghent after 42 years of rent. The city of Ghent promised to find a solution, but one has not yet been found. At the end of January 2024, the club will have to move out.

    Please consider signing this petition to try and keep this venue as the meeting point of the Backgammon Club Ghent.

    No money games. You can play for fun or, as BGFed.be member (only 10,- € per year) for the official Belgian rating list.

    Due to the measures to limit the propagation of the COVID-19 virus, the following live backgammon activities are postponed or cancelled:

    • Leuven Monthly (Friday, April 24)
    • 4 Cubes rounds 2 & 3 (Sunday, April 26)
    • Brussels Friendly 100 (Friday, May 1)

    As soon as we have more information about the meeting possibilities, the BIC competition will be rescheduled. By now, our expectation is to postpone all matches by +/- 3 months (for ex. the D2 qualifying round-robin to be finished in June will be rescheduled till September).

    Online matches still valid for the rating list (see earlier post).

  • Leuven Monthly 2020: Mark Your Calendar

    The Leuven Monthly tournament series continues in 2020 (of course). Here are the dates:

    • Winter => on Sunday (13:45) : 26/01 – 23/02 – 22/03
    • Spring  => on Friday (19:45) : 24/04 – 22/05 – 26/06
    • Autumn => on Sunday (13:45) : 27/09 – 18/10 – 22/11
    • Final : probably on Sunday 20/12

  • Sassan Kachanian and Alain Chif share the honours at Brussels Friendly 95

    Immediately after the General Assembly of BGFed.be npo, organizer Guy Van Middelem welcomed 22 players at the 95th edition of the Brussels Friendly in tennis club le Roseau, Uccle.

    In a very enjoyable atmosphere everybody played four 5-point-matches. Sassan Kachanian and Alain Chif were the only players who managed to win all their games. Five players (Itzhak Solsky, Kristoffer De Weert, Luc Palmans, Theo Sarmanidis & Mahir Yalçin) finished with 3 wins, and shared the third prize.

    The Brussels Backgammon Club welcomed two new members for 2020 : Joya Capelluto and Rik Vos. They started winning some matches already.

    Next tournaments: Leuven Monthly, on Sunday, December 15, at 13h45 in Squash club de Vaart, Wilsele; Brussels Friendly 96 on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 19h45 in tennis club le Roseau, Uccle.

  • Leuven Monthly replaces 4th Friday

    In December 2016, the Backgammon Club Leuven launched a survey to know more about its players’ preferences. Thirty-eight people responded. Following up, the club decided to change the format of its 4th Friday tournament series: the Leuven Monthly was born. In 2017, the tournaments take place on Friday evenings or on Sunday afternoons, depending on the particular month. The tournament format is a mix of 7-point and 5-point matches. The rules of the Leuven Club Championship have been modified too, giving higher winning chances to less regular players. Read more.

  • Guy van Middelem wins the Leuven Club Championship

    The Leuven Backgammon Club organized its championship for the fifth time. The championship consisted of 12 monthly tournaments, each with 4 rounds of 5-point matches, played in the Swiss system. Overall, 39 players participated in at least one of the tournaments. The ranking has been very tight throughout the year but in the end Guy van Middelem collected the most championship points, ahead of last year’s champion Zsolt Tasnadi and tournament director Johan Segers. Congratulations!

  • Backgammon Leuven on Tour

    After the closure of the University Snooker and Pool (Heverlee), the Backgammon Club Leuven is going on tour to explore a number of new venues. The Fourth Friday of August 23, 2013, will take place in the bar/restaurant of the Sport and SquashClub “De Vaart”, Kolonel Begaultlaan 15, 3012 Wilsele (second floor). You can park your car in the street.

    The club is most grateful to Christina and Liévin of the University Snooker and Pool for their hospitality during eight years, during the club evenings on Friday and at the yearly Leuven Open. It’s been really great, thank you!

  • Champagne for Brussels Friendly 10

    At the 1st anniversary edition of the Brussels Friendly, the entry is (almost) for free and there are bottles of champagne to be won for the unluckiest dice rolls. Happy anniversary, Guy!
