On Sunday 25 March a small but fairly strong field of players (12) took part in the 3rd Rotterdam Supersunday of 2012. Among them, Rogier Van Gemert, Paul Van Koningshoven, Hans-Willem Capel and Bert Van Kerckhove (winner of last month’s Supersunday) stood out as favorites.
Bert beat Dan Pascu to make it to the quarter finals, but his hopes for a Supersunday back-to-back victory evaporated when he lost a decisive 8-cube game to Peter Gelpke.
Michel beat Nico N. and Arthur Braackx with comfortable ease to make it to the semi-final, where he met Peter Gelpke. Michel cruised to an 8-1 lead (match to 11), but then lost two consecutive 4-pointers in dramatic fashion : 8-9! Peter then confidently dropped Michel’s 3-away 2-away cube to make it 9-9. After some hair-rising swings, Michel managed to win the crucial DMP-game to earn a place in the final, where he beat a distracted Paul Van Koningshoven 13-4.
A fine win for Michel, who seems to have recovered well from last week’s 4 Cubes blow against Hasselt (report), and a second consecutive Belgian winner in Rotterdam.
