In the 4 Cubes 2017 interclub competition, five Belgian teams will fight for the title of Belgium’s Best Backgammon Club: Brugge, Brussels, Gent, Leuven I, and Leuven Cubers II (winners of the 4 Cubes 2016).
Tournament format
The tournament format is round-robin: every team will meet every other team, either at home or away. There are five rounds, with each team being bye for one round.
When two teams meet, they both field four players. The encounter consists of three rounds of 7-point matches. This gives twelve matches in total. The team winning seven or more matches has won the encounter (2 team points for the winning team). At a 6-6 score, the encounter ends in a draw (1 team point for each of the two teams).
Time control
To make sure the evenings don’t run excessively late, we play with the clock. Time control follows the Bronstein system: 14 minutes per player for the match, plus 12 seconds per move.
The home club is expected to provide the clocks. Of course, they may ask the visiting club for help.
Calendar
The encounters take place in the third week of the months of February, April, June, September, and November.
Results
Team captains are kindly asked to send the results of the twelve matches within 24 hours after the encounter by email to 4 Cubes 2017 tournament director Luc Palmans (palmans.luc@skynet.be).
Ranking
At the end of the competition, teams are ranked according to the number of team points. In the case of a tie, the mutual result and the number of matches won (board points) will serve as tie-breakers. If needed, play-offs will be organized to determine the winner.
